Hct can also become elevated with lung disease, congenital cardiac disease, low blood oxygen levels or polycythemia (excessive production of red blood cells). When the hemoglobin level is low, the patient has anemia. High Hct typically presents with high red blood cells and hemoglobin levels, which are also a sign of dehydration. Richard Stallman has remained the principal maintainer of GNU Emacs, but he has stepped back from the role at times. Development took place in a single CVS trunk until 2008, and today uses the Git DVCS. The project has since adopted a public development mailing list and anonymous CVS access. Īlthough users commonly submitted patches and Elisp code to the net.emacs newsgroup, participation in GNU Emacs development was relatively restricted until 1999, and was used as an example of the "Cathedral" development style in The Cathedral and the Bazaar. Markus Hess exploited a security flaw in GNU Emacs's email subsystem in his 1986 cracking spree, in which he gained superuser access to Unix computers. It offered more features than Gosling Emacs, in particular a full-featured Lisp as its extension language, and soon replaced Gosling Emacs as the de facto Unix Emacs editor. GNU Emacs was later ported to the Unix operating system. In the current numbering scheme, a number with two components signifies a release version, with development versions having three components. A new third version number was added to represent changes made by user sites. The "1" was dropped after version 1.12 as it was thought that the major number would never change, and thus the major version skipped from "1" to "13". Early versions of GNU Emacs were numbered as "1.x.x," with the initial digit denoting the version of the C core. The first widely distributed version of GNU Emacs was version 15.34, released later in 1985. Version 13, the first public release, was made on March 20, 1985. GNU Emacs is written in C and provides Emacs Lisp, also implemented in C, as an extension language. This became the first program released by the nascent GNU Project. GNU Emacs was initially based on Gosling Emacs, but Stallman's replacement of its Mocklisp interpreter with a true Lisp interpreter required that nearly all of its code be rewritten. In 1976, Stallman wrote the first Emacs (“Editor MACroS”), and in 1984, began work on GNU Emacs, to produce a free software alternative to the proprietary Gosling Emacs. Richard Stallman, founder of the GNU Project and author of GNU Emacs You only need to list two transactions for each unpaid invoice, with greater flexibility on timings. Straightforward procedure: The direct write off method offers a simple way to deal with unpaid debts. There are several advantages to using the direct write off method: The estimated amount is debited from the Bad Debts Expense and credited to an Allowance for Doubtful Accounts to maintain balance. Rather than writing off bad debt as unpaid invoices come in, the amount is tallied up only at the end of the accounting year. With the allowance method, the business can estimate its bad debt at the end of the financial year. The allowance method offers an alternative to the direct write off method of accounting for bad debts. It will report more revenue than might have actually been generated.Īs a result, although the IRS allows businesses to use the direct write off method for tax purposes, GAAP requires the allowance method for financial statements. This means that reported losses could appear on the income statement against unrelated revenue, which distorts the balance sheet. However, the direct write off method allows losses to be recorded in different periods from the original invoice dates. GAAP states that expenses and revenue must be matched within the same accounting period. The direct write off method doesn’t comply with the GAAP, or generally accepted accounting principles. One issue that immediately crops up when it comes to this method is that of direct write off method GAAP compliance. Accounts Receivable would be debited, and the Bad Debt Expense account would be reduced. In the direct write off method example above, what happens if the client does end up paying later on? Both charges would be reversed. It’s also important to note that unpaid invoices are categorized as assets, which are debited in accounting. The IRS allows bad debts to be written off as a deduction from total taxable income, so it’s important to keep track of these unpaid invoices in one way or another. At some point the business might decide that this debt will never be paid, so it would debit the Bad Debts Expense account for $500, and apply this same $500 as a credit to Accounts Receivable. To apply the direct write off method, the business records the debt in two accounts:Īs a direct write off method example, imagine that a business submits an invoice for $500 to a client, but months have gone by and the client still hasn’t paid. The direct write off method of accounting for bad debts allows businesses to reconcile these amounts in financial statements. Bad debt refers to any amount owed by a customer that will not be paid. To better understand the answer to “what is the direct write off method,” it’s first important to look at the concept of “bad debt”. The direct write off method offers a way to deal with this for accounting purposes, but it comes with some pros and cons. What happens when a customer doesn’t pay for products or services? The business is left out of pocket with “bad debt” to balance in the books. Aluminum toxicity can occur in patients with chronic kidney disease who undergo bladder irrigation with aluminum-containing products, use phosphate binders that contain aluminum, or receive hemodialysis with a water source contaminated with aluminum. Thus, rapid progression through these stages is another indicator that chelation may be necessary.Īluminum toxicity is an off-label use for deferoxamine chelation therapy. Acute iron toxicity progresses through five clinical stages, with the most deadly consequences occurring within the first four days. Signs and symptoms of systemic toxicity include coagulopathy, cardiomyopathy, and hepatic and renal failure. Īnother indication for iron chelation is a cardiac T2* 500 mcg/dL are considered hazardous, and chelation should be initiated. In this population, chelation should begin two years after transfusions start, serum ferritin levels greater than 1000 mcg/L, or when liver iron concentration (LIC) is greater than 3 mg Fe/g. These patients include those affected by Thalassemia, Sickle cell disease, myelodysplastic syndromes, ineffective hematopoiesis, and other inherited anemic disorders. Transfusion-related iron overload occurs in patients that require frequent transfusions throughout their life. Clinicians can also use deferoxamine as an off-label treatment for aluminum toxicity in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The FDA has not approved deferoxamine as first-line therapy for hereditary hemochromatosis unless there is a contraindication to phlebotomy. The definition of iron overload is serial ferritin levels above 800 to 3000 ng/mL. Time for testing □ String lastName = firstNames įirst, we are creating a new instance of the Random class then after this we retrieve a name from the first names array within the range of the array and we do the same for the last name. Now below the declaration of the two string arrays let's create a static function called GenerateName which will not receive any parameter and will return a string which will be the random name generated from the names and last names lists. private static readonly string firstNames = Now let's create another class called NamesGenerator.cs here we will start declaring two string arrays called firstNames and lastNames respectively to store our hard-coded list of names and last names. Hello guys, I'm happy to be writing again as it's one of my goals this year to try and have an online presence and acquire new hobbies like blogging which I found attractive since I was young but constancy has never been one of my strengths but I'm giving my best to change that from now on. 2 min read Name's cards with some markers to the left. 2C (Light With Cool Undertones) (Unboxed).4N (Medium To Deep With Neutral Undertones).Uslan likes to apply a very light translucent powder over it to set it in place. “A primer helps to not only extend the wear of your makeup but keep it in place, so it doesn’t crease or budge,” she says. The best way to make concealer or any makeup last longer is to use a primer, says Ono. “Applying the concealer directly to the skin always deposits the most pigment onto the skin,” she says. Ono loves using the Fenty Beauty Lil Precision Makeup Sponge Duo 105 to get into those harder-to-reach areas like in the corner of the eyes or on the sides of the nose where you often need to cover up. Then, she uses a sponge like a Beauty Blender or her fingers to work it into the skin. For under-eye coverage, Uslan applies concealer like an upside down triangle, lifting up towards the temples in nice long strokes. In general, blending with a sponge gives a more natural, air-brushed finish. Whether you use your fingers, a brush or the applicator is based on your personal preference and the finish you’re looking for. “It helps brighten and give a lifting effect.” How Do You Apply Concealer? One spot Ono especially loves to glide it on: the brow bone. You can even use the product around the mouth, on the bridge of the nose and on the chin. Why stop under the eyes? “Use a concealer to brighten dark circles and anywhere on the face to cover blemishes,” says Ono. Applied correctly, it can also be used to contour cheekbones or as a highlighter. In blurring the imperfections, concealer creates a flawless base for your makeup. This includes sun spots, broken capillaries, acne scars, irritations and under-eye circles. “Concealer helps to neutralize any redness, brighten any darkness and cover any blemishes,” says Ono. Sometimes you have more blemishes, and some days your under-eye circles are a little darker than normal.” “Buildable coverage is ideal because your needs can change day-to-day. “I always look for a concealer that has buildable coverage that still lets skin look like skin,” says Ono. Coverage can range from light to medium to full-coverage. CoverageĪnother factor to consider is how pigmented the concealer is. Those with drier skin should opt for a concealer that is a bit more creamy. Oily skin types should go with a drier more satin-matte finish, says Uslan. FinishĬoncealers come in a variety of finishes. For covering blemishes on the rest of your face, pick a concealer shade that matches your skin tone or foundation. “If you’re looking to disguise dark circles, choose a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your natural skin tone to cover up and give that brightening effect,” she says. She recommends always stocking two shades in your makeup arsenal. “Then, decide what the goal of the concealer is,” says Ono. Next, swatch your picks under your eye or on your wrist to find the tone that looks most natural with your overall coloring. Start by figuring out if you have a warm, cool or neutral undertone. The most important step is finding the right shade. Here’s what to consider when shopping for the best concealer for you. This wonder-working product helps you fake good night’s rest and preps your complexion for the rest of your makeup routine. Being an Account of More Than Forty Collections of Paintings, Drawings, Sculptures, Mss., &c. It hits all of the Kansas City barbecue note,s but it doesn’t necessarily make food taste like barbecue. It’s salty but not too salty, spicy but not too spicy, and sweet but not too sweet, with garlic and hickory smoke too. Fiorella’s kids eventually turned the family business into the barbecue empire known today as Jack Stack and part of that empire includes a line of premade rubs that you can buy at any grocery store in the area.Īt my house the go-to is the Meat and Poultry rub. A few decades later Russ Fiorella entered the scene when he opened the first Smoke Stack BBQ in 1957. He lives in Provo, Utah with an adolescent family and their “bullador beagle.Henry Perry was the first person to turn Kansas City–style barbecue into a brick-and-mortar business when he started selling smoked meat out of a pushcart-and later a pit next to his barn-in the early 20th Century. With friendly service and prices, it’s easy to see why Gates is often called “the people’s” favorite BBQ joint.īlake Snow contributes to fancy publications and Fortune 500 companies as a bodacious writer-for-hire and frequent travel columnist. Although their “burnt ends” (on sandwich form only) aren’t cubed like everywhere else, the ground up ends have an even more burntness and smokiness to them in a good way that paired nicely with Gates’ equally impressive sauces. Also opened in 1946, this was arguably the most affordable but still remarkably delicious barbeque I enjoyed all week. Like Arthur Bryant’s, Gates is a Kansas City institution. Arthur Bryant was trained by Henry Perry, the “father of Kansas City BBQ,” before opening this enduring restaurant in 1946. In short, Arthur Bryant’s can afford to be unwelcoming and cold because the aforementioned staples are so good. But the burnt ends, ribs, and SAUCES were all amazing! Although their sauce is unconventional, it was the noticeable favorite. The service was slow, unfriendly, and seemingly uninterested. Welcome to the BBQ Nazi of Kansas City, at least on the Saturday that I visited. And Q39 had the best desert of the weekend: Chocolate Pecan Cheesecake. But there’s really not a bad sauce in town. Their sauce was good, too, although not the best I had. Highlights include their burnt ends, ribs, and apple slaw, which were all at the top of the pack. Although it is the priciest barbeque on this list, it’s still a midwest restaurant and likely cheaper than what you’d pay elsewhere in the country. Overall, Jack Stack is a wonderful atmosphere and a great value (less than $50 for two people with sodas).Īlso tied for second and trendier than Jack Stack, Q39 takes great pride in their barbeque, innovative sides, and huge portions. Their baked beans and cheese corn are also the best in the city. But their unique Crown Prime Beef was one of my favorite things consumed all weekend. Their burnt ends and multiple sauces were very good (but not the best, more on that below) same for the ribs. If you want more traditional KC BBQ in a fancier setting, Jack Stack’s Freight House is an award-winning place. The next two restaurants are a toss-up and do different things better. My friend and I arrived 10 minutes early, and there was already a line outside of the tour, filled with both locals and tourists making their daily pilgrimage. The chicken gumbeaux is a spicy surprise. Situated on the Kansas side of the border, it lives up to all of the hype, most famously Anthony Bourdain’s list of “13 Places to Eat Before You Die.” The perfectly seasoned “short end” (aka juicer) ribs are a sight to behold. If you visit only one BBQ restaurant, make it Joe’s. While I wasn’t able to visit all of them, I spent three full days eating slow-cooked meats and killer sauces for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Known for its ubiquitous “burnt ends,” ribs, and signature thick sauce-which most Americans think of and buy when reaching for BBQ sauce (a la KC Masterpiece)-Kansas City is home to over 100 barbecue restaurants, many of which are nationally renowned. But I followed my stomach there on a mission to identify the two-state city’s best barbecue joints. Located at the epicenter of the lower 48, KC is known for many things, including its beautiful trees and Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Last month, I was finally able to “leave my room” and properly explore Kansas City for myself. Even though I wasn’t allowed to leave the room while my dad attended a conference in the lobby, I felt like a VIP watching the “foreign” city just outside my high-rise window. It was the first time I flew in an airplane or stayed at a fancy hotel. When I was nine, my father took me on an overnight trip to Kansas City. Although weird now, travel is still worthwhile-especially to these open borders. “Get Out There” is a new column for itchy footed humans written by Paste contributor Blake Snow. Even after giving them plenty of time to set, the colors smudged and transferred whenever I gently rubbed my finger across them. However, where the formulation falls apart is that they are not at all smudge-proof. All four shades are pigmented and creamy they apply nicely and blend easily. You get one nude lip liner and three eyeliners in blue, brown, and black. Unfortunately, all four colors were very disappointing. So despite not loving the unstylish design of this pen, I was expecting the liners to at least be practical and well-formulated.
